Unattended Direct Cremation
Unattended direct cremations have increased in popularity in recent years as people look for a simpler and lower cost way to say goodbye to a loved one.
If you are interested in arranging this type of funeral for a loved one, or thinking ahead about your own funeral, we’re here to help you decide on what is right for you and for your family.
What Is An Unattended Direct Cremation?
A direct cremation is a cremation that takes place without a funeral service, the traditional rituals of a funeral, or mourners present.
This is a low-cost cremation option, as without a service for mourners to attend, it removes the need to spend money on a procession of funeral cars, a full-length slot at the crematorium, a minister or celebrant, as well as flowers and orders of service sheets. However, while a direct cremation addresses financial concerns, a funeral service, even in its simplest form, provides emotional and communal support that can help enormously in the journey of grief.
It is important to carefully consider the needs and wishes of both the deceased and the family members left behind as to whether this type of send-off is right for you. We have created a useful guide to help you understand how a funeral can support the grieving process. Read our guide here or reach out to us anytime, we’re always available to talk through your options and provide the information you need.
Why Choose A Direct Cremation With Thomas Furber & Co. Funeral Directors?
At Thomas Furber & Co., we will help you arrange a send-off for your loved one, whatever your needs and budget. We are here to serve your needs and be by your side during this difficult time.
A direct cremation, arranged by a local funeral director such as ourselves, can offer many benefits compared to choosing a national direct cremation provider, who you may see advertising on TV.
Your Loved One Is Cared For Locally
After the death of your loved one, our team will bring them into our care and they will remain in our purpose built facilities in the funeral home here in Harborne, Birmingham until the day of the cremation.
National direct cremation providers will take your deceased to a large mortuary many miles away from home.
We’re Here To Help And Support You
With Thomas Furber & Co., we are here to help and support you at every stage. You can visit our funeral home, where you will be met face-to-face by our caring, compassionate, and experienced team to help you with the funeral arrangements. It’s our role to arrange the funeral as per your wishes, and we’ll guide and support you through every stage.
If you choose a national direct cremation provider, all the arrangements for the cremation will be made over the phone or online, with no personalised service.
Time With Your Loved One To Say Goodbye
If you choose a direct cremation with us, we ensure you feel involved in your loved one’s send-off, whether that’s dressing your loved one in their own clothes, putting special items in the coffin, or simply spending time with them in one of our private Chapels of Rest to say your final goodbye.
With a national direct cremation provider, your loved one will be dressed in a simple gown, and it is not possible to spend time with your loved one before the cremation.
A Dignified And Respectful Local Cremation
On the day of the cremation, we carefully transport your loved one to Waseley Hills Crematorium in Rubery.
In private, and without mourners present, we lay the deceased onto the catafalque in the main service room, we bow our heads as a mark of respect, and the coffin is then taken for cremation.
With a national direct cremation provider, you will not know where in the UK the cremation will take place.
Ashes Scattered Or Returned To You By Us
After the cremation, you can choose for the ashes to be scattered in the garden of remembrance at Waseley Hills Crematorium, or one of our trusted team members will collect them on your behalf, and we will store the ashes at our funeral home for you until the time is right to collect them.
With a national direct cremation provider, if you wish for the ashes to be returned to you, this will be done by a national distribution company.
