Our Funeral Services
Honouring Every Life With Care And Choice
Every funeral we arrange is unique and personal to the person who has died and their family.
However, to make our services and prices as easy to understand as possible, we have created four packages which offer varying levels of personalisation options and choices so you can choose a package that best suits your needs and budget.
Bespoke Funeral – from £2,595
Our Bespoke Funeral allows you to create a truly personalised funeral. This package is suitable for a cremation or burial and gives you the broadest range of options.
You have the option to choose any coffin. It includes a hearse, limousine, and a personalised processional route. You can choose the day and time of the service and fully personalise the service with music, readings, order of service sheets, photo montages, webcasting, and more.
Private Cremation – from £1,880
The Private Cremation allows a limited number of mourners to attend Waseley Hills Crematorium for a short time to witness the committal.
This low-cost cremation funeral is an attended direct cremation and provides a basic coffin for a short and simple send-off. You can personalise the send-off with music.
Unattended Direct Cremation – from £1,480
Our Unattended Direct Cremation is a cremation that takes place without a service or mourners present.
It provides a basic coffin and the ashes are returned to you afterwards. You can personalise this send-off by arranging your own service at a later date and could include the scattering or interment of ashes.
Highest Standards Of Care
Whichever of our packages you choose, you can rest assured that your loved one will receive the highest standards of care. We treat every person who stays with us in our funeral home as if they are a member of our own family.
Understanding Funeral Costs
The total cost of a funeral is based on the individual choices you make and is made up of the following:
The Essential Elements
These include our fees as your funeral director to care for your loved one and undertake all the funeral arrangements on your behalf. They also include the coffin, transportation of your loved one, venue costs at the crematorium or church for the service as well as cremation or burial fees.
Additional Costs To Personalise The Funeral
These include flowers, orders of service sheets, photography or webcasting at the service. If you also wish to create a lasting memorial, whether a headstone at the graveside after a burial or after a cremation, you may wish to purchase an urn, a piece of jewellery, or other precious mementoes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Losing a loved one is never easy, and arranging a funeral can feel overwhelming. We understand the challenges families face during this time, and our goal is to provide clear, compassionate guidance. Below are some of the questions we are most often asked, to help you understand the process and the support available.
What should I do first when someone passes away?
The very first step is to have the death confirmed by a medical professional, such as a GP or hospital doctor. The steps to take are slightly different depending on whether the death has occurred at home, in a care home, or at a hospital or whether the death was expected or unexpected. For the full guide, please visit our web page here.
Once the death has been confirmed, you can contact us at Thomas Furber & Co. on 0121 427 2233. We are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to bring your loved one into our care. From that moment, we will gently guide you through the next steps to begin the process of arranging the funeral.
How soon do I need to contact a funeral director?
There is no rush to make decisions immediately, but once the death has been confirmed by a medical professional, you can call us on 0121 427 2233 at any time of day or night. We will arrange to bring your loved one into our care, either from home, a care home or hospital.
We understand this is a deeply emotional time, so we won’t overwhelm you with information all at once. Instead, we’ll explain everything simply and clearly, step by step, so you feel supported throughout. Our funeral home is based in Harborne, Birmingham, and we also help families across nearby areas, including Halesowen, Dudley and Wolverhampton.
Can I visit my loved one before the funeral?
Yes, visiting your loved one is entirely your choice, and some families find it very helpful, while others prefer to remember their loved one as they were. We will respect whatever feels right for you.
At Thomas Furber & Co., we have peaceful Chapels of Rest where you can say goodbye in private. You are welcome to visit as often as you need, we just ask that you make an appointment in advance to allow us to prepare your loved one for visiting, and to ensure you have the privacy you need.
Some families choose to bring flowers, photographs, or keepsakes, and we are more than happy to help place these in the coffin with your loved one. Our caring team will always be nearby to support you during your visit.
What types of funerals do you offer?
Every funeral we arrange is unique to your wishes. Some families prefer a simple and quiet farewell, while others choose something more traditional or personalised. At Thomas Furber & Co., we offer a range of funeral services to meet all needs and budgets. These range from fully bespoke cremations and burials where you can choose music, readings, flowers, and transport to reflect the life of your loved one. To simple funerals which focus on the essential elements to lower the costs.
We also offer unattended direct cremations for people who want a low-cost, simple send off, and perhaps wish to hold a memorial at time and place that is more personal to the deceased,
We support families across Birmingham and the surrounding areas and will always work closely with you to create a meaningful send-off for your loved one whatever your needs, and your budget.
Will you be there to support me after the funeral?
Yes, our care does not end on the day of the funeral. Grief doesn’t follow a timeline, and we understand that support may be needed weeks or even months later.
After the funeral, we are always here if you want to talk, and we can also direct you to specialist bereavement support if that feels right.
We can also help you with decisions about creating a lasting memorial, such as a headstone or ashes interment, when the time feels right for you. Our role is to be by your side every step of the way, not just on the day of the funeral itself, so you never feel alone in this journey.
