Our Funeral Home
A Warm Welcome In Difficult Times
Most people have never been inside a funeral home before, so having to visit one to arrange a funeral for a loved one can be a stressful experience.
We are here to welcome and reassure you from the moment you arrive. Our funeral home is decorated just like a home. It is warm, welcoming, and comfortable, and we do all we can to make you feel at ease.
Our Funeral Home
Our funeral home is located on Station Road, Harborne. We have onsite parking, or there is ample free parking on the surrounding residential streets.
We operate a 24-hour assistance service, so please do not hesitate to contact us, day or night, for our help.
From our Harborne Funeral Home, we help families right across Birmingham. Including Bartley Green, Bearwood, Dudley, Edgbaston, Handsworth, Kings Heath, Laywood, Northfield, Oldbury, Quinton, Small Heath, Solihull, Sparkbrook, Sutton Coldfield, Walsall, West Bromwich, and Wolverhampton, and many other places in between.
We will also conduct funerals from Birmingham to other parts of the UK, such as Coventry, High Wycombe, Llanaber in Wales, Kingsthorpe, and many other places.
We will travel up to a 20-mile radius before any further charges are made for mileage.
If you need to arrange a funeral or want to speak to us about your loved one, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Our Arrangement Rooms
When you arrive at Thomas Furber & Co., you will be greeted by Keith, Dave, or Sue.
They will take you into our beautiful arrangement room, which is bright and full of natural light, but with privacy windows for your comfort. It has comfy leather seats and cushions.
We’ll offer you refreshments and ensure you are as comfortable as possible before we start.
We also have a second, slightly smaller arrangement room, which we use when necessary.
Alternatively, if you would prefer us to visit you at home to discuss the funeral arrangements on the phone or by video call, please let us know, and we can arrange this.
Our ‘Thank You’ Cards
We are honoured that many of our clients send us ‘Thank you’ cards.
We like to display these in our arrangement room so you can see the kind words others have said about our services.
Our Chapels of Rest
If you want to visit your loved one while they are in our care, we can arrange this for you in one of our three available Chapels of Rest.
Each room gives you complete privacy and allows you to spend some precious time with your loved one before the funeral.
Our Vehicles
At Thomas Furber & Co., we have our own fleet of funeral vehicles, including a hearse and limousines.
We take great care and attention in caring for and maintaining these vehicles to ensure they always look pristine on the day of the funeral.
Not everyone wants a traditional black motor hearse, so if you would like an alternative hearse, we have great relationships with many suppliers and are happy to arrange this to ensure the funeral goes ahead just as you wish.
Frequently Asked Questions
Losing a loved one is never easy, and arranging a funeral can feel overwhelming. We understand the challenges families face during this time, and our goal is to provide clear, compassionate guidance. Below are some of the questions we are most often asked, to help you understand the process and the support available.
What should I do first when a loved one passes away?
When someone dies, it can be hard to know what to do next. The first thing that needs to happen is for a medical professional to confirm and certify the death soon after it has happened.
What needs to happen next varies depending where the death occurred (at home, in a care home, or at hospital) and whether the death was expected or unexpected.
Our compassionate team at Thomas Furber & Co. are here to support you immediately, offering guidance, compassion, and reassurance. Our team can answer your questions, help you understand the process, and be a steady presence at this difficult time. We are available 24/7, and you can call us anytime on 0121 427 2233.
Can I spend private time with my loved one before the funeral?
Yes you can. We understand how important those final moments are. You and your family are welcome to spend time with your loved one in our Chapel of Rest, which offers complete privacy and comfort.
Many families find this time helpful for saying personal goodbyes, reflecting, and finding peace. Our team will support you during your visit, ensuring you feel safe and cared for. You can take as much time as you need.
To arrange a Chapel of Rest visit, please contact us in advance so we can ensure the deceased and the room are respectfully prepared, and appropriate staff are available to assist you.
How do I personalise a funeral for my loved one?
Every person and family is unique, and your loved one’s funeral should reflect that. We work closely with you to include meaningful touches that reflect the deceased’s personality, style, interests and hobbies.
There are many ways a funeral can be personalised; the coffin, the hearse and processional route, flowers, music, and readings.
We can also accommodate religious or spiritual elements for families whose faith played a significant role in their loved one’s life, including prayers, hymns, or rituals.
Our goal is to ensure the funeral feels truly personal and comforting, reflecting the life and personality of your loved one.
What support do you offer for grieving families?
We understand that grief can feel overwhelming, and everyone experiences it differently. Our team is here to provide compassionate support throughout this difficult time. From the moment you contact us, we will guide you through the funeral arrangements and help relieve some of the pressure.
We can also direct you to bereavement support services, and our staff are always ready to listen and offer reassurance.
Please remember, you do not need to face this alone. Our compassionate team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to help families in Harborne, Birmingham, and surrounding areas during this difficult time.
Do you serve families across Birmingham and beyond?
Yes, from our funeral home in Harborne, we help local families across Birmingham, including Bartley Green, Bearwood, Edgbaston, Kings Heath as well as the surrounding areas of Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Solihull and Sutton Coldfield.
We can also help local families who want the funeral to take place somewhere else in the UK, or wish to be repatriated overseas ensuring your loved one’s wishes are fulfilled.
Every family we serve receives the same level of personal support and compassionate care that has been our tradition since 1868.
