A Tradition Of Care

At Thomas Furber & Co., we are proud to be one of Birmingham’s oldest independent funeral directors. This means local families have trusted us to help them through their most difficult times since 1868.

Today, our small and friendly family-run business is still dedicated to helping families arrange unique and personal funerals. It’s a true honour and something that we never take lightly.

Let us tell you more about Thomas Furber & Co. Funeral Directors.

Our Team

Thomas Furber & Co. is an independent, family-run funeral directors, which Keith Barron leads today. Keith is cousin to Thomas Leonard Furber and great grandson to the founder Thomas Furber Esq.

We are a small team working closely together to ensure that every family receives the best care and service.

We are all local people who live in and around Birmingham. Between us, we have more than 100 years of experience in arranging funerals for local families.

Our Funeral Home

Our funeral home is located on Station Road in Harborne. We serve all the local communities across Birmingham, Halesowen, Dudley, Handsworth, Sutton Coldfield, Erdington, West Bromwich, Bromsgrove, Redditch, Solihull and many other areas.

We have beautiful and homely arrangement rooms, where we will spend time getting to know you and the person who has died, so we can help you to create the perfect send-off.

We also have our own Chapels of Rest, so if you wish to, you can spend time with your loved one before the funeral.

Our Values

As with any family business with a long history, our heritage, culture and values are infused into how we work today and the promises we make to our clients.

Future Focused

We love what we do, and hope to carry on for many years to come, which means thinking of the future and adapting to the changing needs and wishes of our clients.

Our History

Over a century and a half ago, Thomas Furber Esq. started the company. He was great grandfather to Keith Barron, the current owner and custodian of the business.

The business started in Ladywood, Birmingham, with the stables for the horses that pulled the hearse based on Alston Street and Blythe Street. We are now located in Harborne on Station Road.

For over 150 years, we have been serving local families from across Birmingham and surrounding areas.

Today, the family business is run by Keith and the team, which includes Dave Yardley (Manager), Sue Yardley (Office Manager), and the support team of Frankie, Keith, Scott, and Steve. Together, they continue to serve local families and are committed to providing clients a personal, sympathetic, and professional service for years to come.

SAIF Membership Guarantees The Highest Standards Of Care

We are proud and long-standing members of the industry trade body SAIF (The Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors) which means we follow their code of practice and are regularly inspected to ensure our clients get the greatest standards of quality and care across every aspect of care of the deceased and arranging a funeral.

SAIF supports local and family run businesses, like ourselves who offer a personal, friendly and flexible service, which is not always the case from some of the larger groups or chains of funeral directors.

Bereavement Support Services

We know that no-one can understand exactly what your loss feels like to you. But at Thomas Furber & Co we do understand that it’s sometimes easier to talk to someone outside of your friends and family about grief and the impact of bereavement on your life and this is why we offer the SAIFCare Chat service.

SAIFCare Chat is a package of bereavement support services including a telephone bereavement careline and email support.

SAIFCare is supported by GriefChat, created by bereavement experts where you can talk directly to a specially trained bereavement counsellor.
